I’m sure if you are reading this blog you know this already but on that small chance that you don’t, or you didn’t download it - it’s well worth the miniscule dollar amount they are asking for. Remember when games were just all out fun, if you want to relive that experience, Ikaruga will bring you there and take you past your memories into the realm of innovation and amazement.
I’ve always passed on this one whenever visiting my local game shop - but it seems to be another worthy roguelike-dungeon crawler in the same vein as Shiren The Wanderer and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - that is: a no holds bar turnbased barrel of violence and frustration that is addictively fun. It’s been out for a bit, so if you run across a nice discounted copy, snatch it up!
Incredible cell shading techniques here with cyberconnect2 at the helm, should prove to be an interesting game. Jp Release sometime in 2008, no US release date at this time.
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is out Stateside [DS]
Quietly released recently, Mystery Dungeon (an old series in japan) has finally came stateside. Be warned this is probably the hardest game you’ll ever play in your life - if you remember the old classics like net hack and/or rogue, and you remember them fondly then this is the game for you. The basic premise is if you die in the game you lose everything on you and basically have to start over. There are some mechanics to make such a thing a bit easier, but believe you me you will feel like you just lost a good friend. You will stare at the screen in disbelief that your super uber sword (at least you think it is, it probably sucked) is gone forever, that cool shield you upgraded - gone forever, those 30 levels of blood, sweat and tears… yeah those are gone too… but you still feel the need to dig back in, from the start, why? Probably to see how far you can get next time, or what crazy scrolls lie in your future, or what nutty character you can join up with next, or what crazy creature u’ll have to decimate… the game is chock full of mechanics, from the ability to re-design the dungeon on the fly, to enemies that demand chess-like planning to beat… it’s good, but it’s tough, and unforgiving, and I can’t stop playing it… it is the true definition of murdercore.
I just got my copy and it’s pretty amazing so far. Anyway here are 4 movies to whet your apetite. Looks like there is a US release coming soon: Jun 24th. Rejoice!
